Naturally leavened country loaves, baked every morning.
Naturally leavened breads, buttery viennoiserie, and pies made from fruit grown down the road. We open at seven, and we bake until we run out.
We started in a back-alley garage with one deck oven and a starter named after a grandmother. Hampden took us in, and we have been proofing bread on this block ever since.
The flour is milled thirty miles from the shop. The butter is local. The fruit for the pies comes from farms we can drive to on a day off.
"Good bread takes time. There's no shortcut to it, and we don't look for one."
Right on the Avenue, between a used bookstore and an old record shop. Street parking is easy most mornings. Dog-friendly patio out back.
